This is a solid 14K yellow gold cable chain bracelet set with a 3mm round lab-grown emerald, May’s birthstone, in a polished bezel. It adjusts from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches.

The piece

  • Metal: Solid 14K yellow gold, never plated or filled
  • Stone: 3mm round lab-grown emerald (lab-grown: the same chemistry and crystal structure as the mined stone)
  • Setting: Bezel
  • Chain: Cable, adjustable from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches
  • Made: In the USA
  • Returns: Eligible under our return policy (stock design, never engraved or sized)

The stone

Emerald is green beryl colored by chromium or vanadium. It was mined in Egypt in antiquity and later prized from Colombia, which still produces some of the finest emeralds in the world. More in our gemologist’s guide to the twelve birthstones.

A gemologist’s note

Natural emeralds are almost always treated with oil or resin to hide internal fractures. A lab-grown emerald has the same chemistry and color but typically needs no filling, which makes it the more practical choice for a piece worn every day. It uses the same stone as our May birthstone charm and necklace, so the pieces can be worn as a set.

Care

Emerald is 7.5 to 8 on the hardness scale but can be brittle. Bracelets take more knocks than necklaces, so take it off for workouts, housework and swimming. Polish with a soft jewelry cloth.
