This is a solid 14K yellow gold cable chain bracelet set with a 3mm round natural aquamarine, March’s birthstone, in a polished bezel. It adjusts from 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches.

The stone

Aquamarine is a blue variety of beryl, the same mineral family as emerald, colored by traces of iron. Its Latin name means “water of the sea,” and sailors long associated it with safe passage. More in our gemologist’s guide to the twelve birthstones.

A gemologist’s note

At 3mm, aquamarine shows a pale, clean blue rather than a deep one; that is the stone’s character, and against yellow gold it reads as a cool contrast. Like most aquamarine on the market, it may have been gently heated to remove green tones. It uses the same stone as our March birthstone charm and necklace, so the pieces can be worn as a set.

Care

Aquamarine is a hard 7.5 to 8 on the hardness scale. Bracelets take more knocks than necklaces, so take it off for workouts, housework and swimming. Polish with a soft jewelry cloth.
