The symbol

April's birthstone is a tradition that traces back to the breastplate of Aaron described in Exodus, where twelve stones represented the tribes of Israel. The modern calendar mapping was standardized in 1912 by the National Association of Jewelers (now Jewelers of America) and remains the reference list used across most of the English-speaking world. Worn close to the body, a birthstone ring functions as a personal sign, the wearer's name on the calendar.

About this stone

Diamond is pure crystalline carbon, formed at depths of 150 to 250 kilometers in the earth's mantle under pressures and temperatures that exist nowhere on the surface. The diamonds reaching jewelry counters were carried to the surface by deep volcanic eruptions called kimberlite pipes that occurred between 1 and 3 billion years ago. The stone is 10 on the Mohs scale, the hardest natural material known, and the only gem mineral to scratch every other. Industrial diamond is also used as a cutting medium for the very rocks from which gem diamond is mined. The accent diamond in this piece was selected by a certified gemologist for color and clarity.

Diamond is the hardest natural material and resistant to chemicals, heat, and abrasion. Clean with mild soap and warm water, with ultrasonic, or with steam cleaners.
