The symbol

November's birthstone is a tradition that traces back to the breastplate of Aaron described in Exodus, where twelve stones represented the tribes of Israel. The modern calendar mapping was standardized in 1912 by the National Association of Jewelers (now Jewelers of America) and remains the reference list used across most of the English-speaking world. About this stone

Citrine is a variety of quartz colored yellow to amber by trace iron. Most market citrine is heat-treated amethyst, a transformation that occurs naturally underground when amethyst-bearing rock is heated by adjacent geological activity. Untreated natural citrine is rare and chiefly comes from Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state. The Greek physician Pliny the Elder noted citrine's color in his Naturalis Historia, and Roman jewelers carved it into intaglio seals. The stone is 7 on the Mohs scale, durable and stable in light and heat, with a long working life. Curated by a certified gemologist.
