December's birthstone is a tradition that traces back to the breastplate of Aaron described in Exodus, where twelve stones represented the tribes of Israel. About this stone

Zircon is a zirconium silicate mineral often confused with the synthetic cubic zirconia, a different material entirely. Natural zircon is among the oldest minerals on earth, with some crystals from Western Australia dated to 4.4 billion years, fragments of the planet's original crust. The blue color is produced by heating naturally brown zircon, a transformation that gives the stone an intense neon teal seen in few other gems.
